I can almost taste it. Lately I’ve been daydreaming about sunshine, flowers and sandals. It may only be February, but spring can’t come any sooner. I long for the days where I can step outside without a scarf! Unfortunately, due to Ohio’s temperamental weather, I may have to wait a while for my winter depression to be cured. Not only does the snow get me down, but the whole “dark colors for winter” wardrobe rule is starting to get old. So I did what any Fashionista in this day and age would do—I broke the rule. After all, famous French artist Henri Matisse once said, “the chief function of color should be to serve expression,” and I believe that fashion is truly all about expressing yourself.
As I was browsing Vogue.com, I became inspired by Christian Dior’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear runway show. Dior’s creative director at the time, Raf Simons, sent his futuristic looks down a stunning runway in the Louvre’s Cour Carrée. The show began with all black and white ensembles, but fun pops of bright color soon followed. My favorite look featured model Luping Wang in a black and gray ensemble with a pastel pink jacket on top.
Taking cues from Dior’s collection, I began my outfit with a basic white T-shirt, destroyed black skinny jeans and black booties. To make this plain outfit pop (and to get rid of my winter blues) I simply added a light pink jacket. A dainty initial necklace, a simple Marc by Marc Jacobs watch and a Pamela Barsky-inspired pouch were the finishing touches for my grungy yet girly get-up.
Get My Look: 1. A pink coat. 2. Black skinny jeans. 3. Black booties. 4. Initial necklace. 5. Quote clutch.
