Mixing patterns has always been considered a big fashion faux pas. Well, this is now a thing of the past; along with mixing gold and silver jewelry, wearing black with brown and white after Labor Day. Who doesn’t love a good winter white? As Katherine Hepburn once said, “If you obey all the rules you miss all the fun.” This Fashionisto took on the challenge and completely nailed it. He said he always likes to push the envelope with mixing patterns. “One time I wore camouflage, stripes and plaid together, but I was so confident and rocked it so hard that it looked great.”
When I was younger, I always felt like I needed to follow all those silly fashion rules. Then, when I got older and decided to start wearing socks with heels and navy jackets with all black outfits, I felt liberated. Some rules aren’t meant to be broken, but fashion rules certainly are. We should all dare to live a little on the wild side and break these age-old fashion rules.
This Fashionisto wore a black sweater to break up the two patterns. On top, he sported a green flannel and underneath he wore a black and white striped shirt. The green plaid gave color to his outfit while the black and white stripes added a touch of flair without competing with the plaid. He also donned a unique pair of Dr. Martens that have a different look to them than the typical pair you see on the street. This Fashionisto is ready to have some fun by breaking all the rules.
The key with this look in particular is breaking up the patterns, not mixing too many colors and letting the rest of your outfit stay neutral to not make the overall look overpowering.
