Comfort is a major key. Maintaining my comfort without sacrificing my style is a balancing act with any of my outfits. Mixing femininity with masculinity and casual with formal is always fun and a challenge that I welcome.
Over the past few months Rihanna has been giving me all kinds of life, from the release of her sneaker collaboration with Puma to her highly anticipated album release to her upcoming tour. And on Friday February 12th at New York Fashion Week, she presented her Fenty x Puma fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection. The collection filled with athleisure-lux left my style senses tingling and me knowing exactly where my next few paychecks are going. The fashions were so laid back but so full of unapologetic attitude. Oversized outerwear was worn sans pants and with accents of fur, mesh and lace-up details. The line also included a few bodycon styles that reflect the undeniable femininity that Rihanna oozes no matter how baggy her attire.
Taking inspiration from the runway show I wanted to give streetwear realness. I dug out my black oversized parka from my closet. This parka is thrift store gold and the large fit makes it perfect for the look I’m trying to achieve. To make the look my own, I layered on my transparent rain mac to play with the baggy silhouette even more. I kept the color scheme minimal, just as in the collection. Finishing off the look I wore a simple choker to incorporate the white from the collection. And I don’t think any other shoes would be more appropriate than my Fenty x Puma oatmeal Creepers.
Of course hoodies and sweatpants are a Fashionistas/os favorites on “bum days,” but when they’re cropped, combined with different textures and interesting silhouettes, sweats can be trendsetting rather than a last resort.
Get The Look: 1. Black parka jacket. 2. Transparent rain mac. 3. Choker.
