Throughout history, women are known to have been subject to being put down and made uncomfortable in our own skin because of the clothes we put on our backs. A woman puts on a sexy outfit to feel confident and powerful; however, walking down the street we are labeled and called derogatory names for our choice in clothes. Well, it’s 2016 and we are we fighting back. The once huge divide between being powerful and sexy is diminishing and those shamers are being put in their place. As the first fashion month of 2016 comes to an end, I noticed something incredible about the clothes this season. The high slits and cut out pieces in Vera Wang, the bold and dramatic colors at Fendi and the romantic punk vibes showcased at Rodarte (to name a few), all allowed for a sense of strength and girl power. Designers successfully intertwined sexy and powerful and created pieces that exude confidence. With this in mind, I realized walking to class one day that this sense of strength through clothes is not just apparent on the catwalk. It has translated to the minds of college students in the form of mixing business apparel with sexy going-out items.
This Fashionista exemplifies the sexy and powerful phenomenon perfectly. Her multi-colored flowered pencil skirt paired with a black, strappy top and bold heels radiate a sense of ultimate confidence. This outfit allows the Fashionista to not only feel sexy but strong in what she wears and that confidence shines through her outfit. This ensemble is perfect for a night out on the town. The intensity of the shoe color makes any sidewalk a catwalk and the pencil skirt creates the perfect classy touch to her sexy top.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Don’t choose to feel either sexy or strong, be both! By pairing a business casual skirt or slacks with a crop top showing midriff or cleavage allows you to feel confident and sexy. It’s the ultimate win-win.”
