STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Dressy in Denim

Warm weather denim has been a constant in our wardrobes over the years, but on the spring 2016 runways it was especially present. Chanel, Suno and Chloé models sported airy chambray dresses, and Alexander Wang and Marc Jacobs sent floor-length denim skirts down the runway.

Here in Virginia it is finally starting to warm up for spring, and as we incorporate fun frocks back into our wardrobes we can definitely take a cue from these designers’ feminine denim looks. When you aren’t feeling your go-to floral sundress or suede skirt, denim on a dress can be the perfect dose of casual and cool for class, brunch with girlfriends or a night out on the town. The dress is a refreshing way to incorporate the fabric into your look instead of the typical pants or chambray shirt, and in a shift silhouette it’s super comfortable—an added plus.

This Fashionista shows us how it’s done, opting for a loose fitting piece in a lighter wash. What I particularly loved about this dress was its lace-up neckline, another hot spring trend that can be seen on Fashionistas all over grounds. With this fun neck detail, she opted for more simple jewelry in the form of a gold cuff and stud earrings. Brown leather riding boots add interest with strap and buckle detailing, but the neutral color lets the dress be the star. Black tights and a sleek leather jacket add some edge to the otherwise girly look, while also keeping her warm when the sun goes down.

WHAT IS YOUR STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Denim is the epitome of a versatile fabric. It can take on practically any form and be styled to a person’s individual taste. I personally love denim in unexpected forms, like this dress paired with a leather jacket for a bit of added edge.”
