STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Straight & Amp; Strappy

Though the flare jean has been in all the industry headlines, the straight leg has made a more recent return to the fashion world. They’ve been rolled or cuffed with Vans, Converse and other stylish sneakers alike during fashion week and on blogs. However, there’s a new trend mix on the block and this Fashionista is showing it off: straight leg jeans and strappy shoes.

This past summer presented strappy gladiator sandals and this winter saw the rise of lace-up flats. The strappy shoe trend will continue into the spring season, in about as many different ways as one can imagine. Straight straps, buckles, tasseled ties and ankle wraps were all on the scene during fashion month and hopefully they’ll be making their way into your closet.

While these shoes would look just as adorable with a dress, the real star is the straight leg jean. It’s the perfect transition piece as the weather gets warmer. Roll the leg for some extra sun exposure without getting too chilly in season’s wind. The straight leg provides a bit more fit than a boyfriend jean, showing off the fabulous spring break bodies that we all have.

This Fashionista styled these trends with a striped mock neck and a leather jacket, looking totally cool-girl chic. Her heart pendent adds a cute, antique touch. If you’re going for something more professional, a blazer and a button-up will go a long way.

As you style this trend pay attention to the details. Straight leg jeans and strappy shoes aren’t necessarily on the same page, so what else you wear with them will either complete or confuse the look. When wearing a strappy sandal, try the easygoing boho look. If you have a super strappy heel, dress up your straight leg for a going out look. For the buckled black shoe, like this Fashionista’s, style it like a trendy motorcycle girl. The possibilities of straight and strappy are endless so get styling Fashionistas!

What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “Take trends lightly and stay true to yourself. Trends only become trends, because people wear things and others take interest, so don’t always follow the status quo because you could be sporting tomorrow’s latest trend!”
