STYLE GURU BIO: Jazmyne Jackson

Hey Fashionista/os! I am so exited to share my passion for fashion with you once again. After some technical difficulties, I am back at College Fashionista this semester ready to post some stylish, trend-setting people. I am a sophomore studying journalism and advertising at Boston University. The East Coast is the perfect fashion scene because it is so sophisticated and put together. I love it because I am from the Midwest and the style is definitely different between these two places.

Anyway, I am notorious for my bold styles and risks I take with clothes. I will be that girl who wears the bird print patterned pants with a neon yellow shirt. I always get told, “I would never wear that, but it looks great on you!” I stay up to date on trends and follow styles throughout the seasons. I hate long sleeve shirts and sweaters, so you will most likely catch me layering.

I get six magazine subscriptions to see an array of different outfits and looks. My fashion role models are the Kardashians/Jenners as cliché as it may sound. I combine looks from Kylie, Kim and Kendall. I check their Instagram accounts every morning before I get ready for the day to get some fashion inspiration! Dress for the Day app is also great at giving me daily fashion inspiration.

To foster my love for fashion, I joined the staff of Off the Cuff, which is the fashion magazine at my university. We release a magazine that features timeless looks and articles that describes them. I also write about fashion and other things for Her Campus at Boston University. Check out my articles here.

My style is so diverse that it can be hard to define. If I had to put it in words, I would describe it as bohemian chic with a dab of red carpet flare. I like classic looks, but I like to add something that will make it more mature, sophisticated or unique. Lately, I have toned down my crazy, Over-the-top looks and have taken a less dramatic approach. I will say, I want to start accessorizing more to make up for my calmer outfits. I’m learning over time that simplicity is not necessarily a bad thing. In my outfit here, I added the bold accessories of a scarf and hat to off-set my lack of jewelry. I also put a bold, pink lip color to make my brown skin pop against the color of my brown hat.

I’m all about saving money and thrifting; my scarf is actually from Goodwill! Some pieces are meant to be a splurge, purchase while others can be thrifted or bought at fast fashion stores like Forever 21 and Charlotte Russe. Just know what type of item you want and what quality you want it be. Staple pieces like a black dress and shoes can be bought anywhere, but skin-tight, nice body suits and nice purses should be a splurge.

There was not a particular moment when I got into fashion or started dressing up, but I have always believed that if you look better, you feel better. I believe how you present yourself with your style, whether it is simple or complex, is a reflection of who you are. As fashion lovers say, “Fashion is just another accessory for someone with great style.”

I’m all about trying new looks and stepping outside of the box, so I hope to give you some fashion inspiration and inspire you to try something new with my posts!
