It’s the Monday after Spring Break, and you’re sitting in your 9:00 a.m. lecture. How did you get here? Last week you were tanning on the white sand of Miami Beach and hitting your favorite brunch spots around town. Now here you are, back in class with the rest of (the never-ending) spring semester ahead of you. Most of us are tempted to finish out the semester in our favorite oversized PINK sweatshirt, but I’m here to tell you about a trend that can pick up your mood and add some playfulness to your spring look: fringe.
This Fashionista didn’t let the after-Spring-Break-slump get to her. What caught my eye about this Fashionista was her tribal-inspired poncho, laced on the edges with gray fringe. This piece is perfect for the winter-to-spring transitional weather, where it is warm enough to walk out without a jacket, yet you still need something to shield you from the brisk breeze. This poncho is a knit material with interweaved neutrals and a pop of sky blue, which matches her Pashmina scarf. The fringed ends of her poncho adds a bit of edge to her outfit, adding movement and wistfulness to her boho-inspired look.
While this Fashionista paired her fringe with simple black jeans and black knee-high boots, there are many other ways that you can incorporate fringe into your outfit. Fringe was a common trend on the spring 2016 runway, with designers integrating fringe into full length dresses, leather jackets and skirts that swayed and swung their way down the runway. When putting together an everyday look, it’s best to incorporate fringe as an accessory such as on a purse or on the ends of your boots.
How To: Make sure you keep it simple. Pairing your fringe piece with a minimalist outfit will allow your fringe to be the focal point of your look, without it being too overpowering. Be sure to bring elements of yourself into the outfit, accessorizing with shoes or jewelry that will enhance the overall look you are going for.
