The year is 2007. My sixth grade posse and I are in the back seat of my mom’s car belting out the words to Avril Lavigne and Jesse McCartney hits. Of course, we are on our way to the mall, which was just a typical Saturday in our stress free 12-year-old lives. Our go-to shopping destinations were Limited Too, Hollister Co. and Abercrombie & Fitch (fast-forward to 2016; the latter two have made huge comebacks, and I am not ashamed to say I shop at both of those stores). We, or our moms, make the typical purchases: jeans, shirts, zip-up hoodies etc. The real star of the shopping trip, however is the denim skirt.
The year is 2016. Open any fashion magazine or browse any blog and you will find denim skirts as one of the top trends. My 12-year-old self is beaming and my 20-year-old self is trying to find the perfect button-up denim skirt to add to my wardrobe. There are so many different styles of the style staple, and this Fashionista proves just that. She rocks a patchwork mini that matches anything; the versatility is unreal.
To add a more casual vibe to the look, this Fashionista paired her skirt with adidas Superstars, which have also made a comeback in recent seasons. To highlight the throwback-esque look, she threw on a turtleneck long sleeve, which is always a yes in my book. With the unreliable weather, especially in the Northeast, long sleeves paired with a leggy bottom is the perfect outfit formula to stay warm, cool, or both. Of course, no outfit is complete without accessories. This Fashionista topped off her look with a killer cross-body bag.
