STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Ditch the Skinnies

Tired of your usual, boring skinny jeans that you have worn to death, then it’s time to take a chance on the wild, ’70s side of life with flared jeans. I don’t mean the flared jeans you wore in middle school, but a fashion-forward, grown-up version instead.

The wonderful part of flared jeans is that they make your legs look longer, your waist slimmer and you look 10 times more put together. They are a statement piece all on their own, unlike skinny jeans that aren’t really intended to stand out. While you may be thinking you have to put a ton more effort into your outfit in the morning you actually have to put in less. “Why?” you may be thinking. Well, with a pair of flared jeans, you can go with a more minimalist top and let your pants shine!

This Fashionista chose to stick to neutrals in her top to avoid the look being cluttered, but added a fun necklace for a bit of personality. One thing that is so fun about her look is the top has belled lace sleeves, which adds a touch of femininity. Also adding personalized jewelry to your look, like the Alex and Ani bracelets, can really make the look your own. She also pairs her flared jeans with heeled ankle booties to give her some added height and lengthening her legs.

There are few styling tips for wearing flared jeans, including keeping the length of your shirt shorter so that you don’t lose your waist. Also, if you aren’t going to be doing a ton of walking, do your legs an even bigger favor and pair them with an ankle bootie, a platform or even a clog. A heeled shoe will take the leg lengthening even further. Don’t be afraid to try out a flared jean because I promise you won’t be sorry!
