Monochromatic: being made entirely of a single color. This word has proliferated throughout the fashion industry in the last couple of years, making bold splashes on runways, in retail locations and in the ever changing arena of street style. Once deemed as being too “matchy-matchy” and unimaginative, monochromatism is now experiencing a reinvention of sorts. Full bodied looks of every color, texture and fabric imaginable have been spotted on the world’s fashion elite. In Tibi’s fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection many head-to-toe singular color looks were featured. From army green, to navy blue, to shimmery gun metal, to pure white, Tibi’s show was almost entirely composed of monochromatic looks. The models wore many layers in the same color, from jackets, to vests, to shoes and accessories, absolutely everything was monochrome!
I love a good monochromatic outfit, like the one I’m (may I say) rocking here. The beautiful thing about this colorful, and sometimes colorless, trend is that it is incredibly flattering. A body clothed in a single color appears longer and leaner to the human eye. Plus, an added benefit is that getting dressed is incredibly easy. All gray for the day means a huge time saver for me in the morning. No fuss, or even thinking for that matter, is required. You just wake up, pick out your color for the day, put it on and you’re good to go!
A fluted skirt, like the one I’m wearing here, is a must-have for spring! It adds whimsical femininity to even the most boxy and unflattering of ensembles. Plus it defines your waist without being so body hugging (which is perfect for that post spring break eating I’ve been doing). Layering dainty chain necklaces is another way to bring a flirty touch to a monochromatic outfit. It adds interest and texture. I also suggest keeping those favorite booties of yours out for spring, because it’s never a bad time for some good booties.
