It’s about that time of the year where we retire our dreary winter wardrobes in order to make room for bright, new spring clothes. One thing I will miss about my winter wardrobe is the rich colors including deep reds, blues, purples and greens. Spring is often associated with either light pastels or bright, in-your-face colors, but neither of which really tickle my fancy. Therefore, it’s my mission to find ways to incorporate spring styles without sacrificing my favorite bold winter colors.
This Fashionista’s outfit has the perfect mix of darker, bolder colors and spring trends. I was immediately attracted to her look because of the interesting red color of her maxi skirt. It’s not your typical spring shade of red, but there is definitely something about it that is brighter than the dreary red shade often seen in winter pieces. Another element that I love about this outfit is the juxtaposition of the bold color with the floral pattern. When I think of spring florals, I think of light pink and baby blue flowers. The fact that this floral print is supplemented by a bold and non-traditional spring color is refreshing and adds a new dimension to the typical idea of spring florals. Finally, her plain black top, black flats and silver belt buckle are the perfect addition to the outfit since they help to balance out the boldness of the skirt.
In addition to this bold red color, other unexpected spring colors such as indigos and rich yellows. If you’re a neutral-lover and feeling hesitant toward adopting this bold trend, try to start out small with a pop of color in a handbag or shoe. Spring is a great transitional period where you can experiment before summer trends are embraced, so be sure to take advantage of fun trends like this one.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I love spring pieces like dresses and maxi skirts, but sometimes I feel too dressed up for class or everyday activities. Wearing those pieces with bolder colors like the red shade of my skirt helps to dress them down and make them more appropriate for everyday wear as opposed to like a blush or light blue color.”
