It’s that time of year again. You’re scrolling through Instagram and you notice an abundance of flower crowns, heart-shaped glasses and #festivalvibes. Even though the spring semester hasn’t officially let out for summer break, it seems as if everyone you follow on Instagram is spending their days at music festivals or running through the field of the annual Tulip Festival. As the warm weather starts to roll in after a long, dreary winter (for those of us on the East Coast), we begin to dust off our favorite pair of sandals and vintage kimonos, ready to “suit up” for the summer. Whether you are spending the warm weather strolling through the Coachella Valley, or just simply taking a walk around campus (a category the majority of us fall into), it doesn’t hurt to learn how to dress the part.
For this look, I took my inspiration from one of my favorite looks, the alice + olivia resort 2016 collection. alice + olivia has been notable in the past few seasons for incorporating desert vibes into their collection, as well as bringing back elements such from ’70s fashion, such as the most notable: bell bottoms. This wide-legged fashion statement has recently come back into style in a conventional and innovated way. This collection had a wide range of bright colors, mixed with crop tops and an extra focus on wide-legged bottoms.
Now how do we incorporate this into our upcoming summer wardrobe? This collection, clad with its fringed sandals and bell bottoms, is perfect to incorporate some desert-inspired pieces into your upcoming wardrobe. In my look, I decided to take my inspiration from look 18, and paired printed bell bottoms with bright yellow and deep blue, common colors in the collection. These printed bottoms are perfect for the summer, as they are versatile and chic for any activity you may be doing. I chose a yellow knit light sweater as a top, but you can choose a crop top or a peasant blouse in order to accommodate for warmer weather. Lastly, I accessorized with a gold chunky necklace to incorporate my own style into the look.
Integrating the bell bottom trend into your wardrobe, whether it be denim, printed or simply solid colored, can inspire you to bring your summer wardrobe to life.
