STYLE GURU STYLE: Pattern Pop

There’s nothing I love more than kate spade New York. kate spade designs have been inspiring my fashion choices for years, and for so many reasons. In the fall 2016 ready-to-wear runway, there are several dramatic looks that grab my attention. Among the pops of color, the collection offers so many neutral outfits that stand out not by their use of color, but by their use of pattern, shape and fabric.

One of the looks among them is this one, which uses nothing but neutral colors yet manages to say so much. The outfit uses unexpected fabric and style to bring a fresh of breath air to a color scheme typically delegated to the background.

I adore wearing neutrals, especially because it allows for ease and flexibility with matching accessories. I decided to try to replicate the idea of a neutral outfit that still made a statement.

For my look, I chose to use patterns, fabric type and unexpected style moves to make a statement using neutral colors. I opted for a striped peplum blouse. This top is unexpected in several ways because it is made from a heavier material, which contrasts against my denim jeggings, and the back of the shirt is open and tied in a bow.

I paired this top with the stark contrast of jeggings, which I added a striped cuff to at the bottom. The striped cuff adds a bit of professionalism and pizzazz to the outfit, and the matching patterns draw the eye from the top of the outfit all the way to the bottom, where I complete it with adorable suede booties.

Finally, I completed the outfit with three neutral accessories: a polka dot headband, a polka dot bow bracelet and a striped bow bracelet, bringing together the theme of a pattern pop without deviating from my color scheme. The bows are accented by glitter that catches in the spring sun.

Get My Look: 1. Striped peplum top. 2. Olivia dark indigo jeggings. 3. Polka-dot bow bracelet. 4. The Giving Keys dainty infinity necklace. 5. Suede ankle boots.
