WHAT TO WEAR: Spring

They weren’t kidding when they said April showers bring May flowers. But so far the only thing these April showers have brought is more showers in May. Dressing for rain when the temperature is warming up is always tricky. Your outfit has to be weather-proof but still light enough that you’re not drenched in sweat by the time you make it to that class on the other side of campus.

This Fashionista is cool, calm and collected (but most importantly dry) in this rainy day outfit. The layering of the tank top under the raincoat keeps her from overheating, but the subtle floral print of it gives the outfit a spring-time feel without being overly obnoxious, because as Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada so eloquently said, “Florals for spring? Groundbreaking.” The silhouette and the subtleness of the blouse gives the look a nice airiness that is super desirable for those muggy days.

The dainty gold jewelry adds an air of lightness to the outfit as well. It is so small but the simplicity of it adds a minimalistic feel that is so trendy right now.

I also loved that her raincoat wasn’t a traditional raincoat. The length it is definitely more of a parka making the outfit a tad edgier than it would’ve been had she just paired it with any old raincoat.

My favorite part of this outfit is probably the Birkenstocks. I know that everyone has mixed feelings about Birkenstocks but I am such a fan. It is literally like walking barefoot through a field of flowers when I have these on. They have such a cool-girl feel because they’re so relaxed and effortless but still trendy.

This Fashionista decided to pair her Birkenstocks with this outfit because even though it was cloudy, the rain was off and on throughout the day. This allowed her to keep her rain boots in the closet so she could maintain her goal of keeping her outfit as lightweight as possible because no one wants to be a sweaty Betty in class.

One Simple Change: To transition this look into a fall outfit, it would be better to wear a heavier shirt under the raincoat and boots instead of Birkenstocks. This will make the outfit a bit warmer so that those October showers don’t make you too chilly.
