STYLE GURU STYLE: Jennifer Aniston Called; She Wants Her Jeans Back

There’s no denying it anymore; the ’90s are back with full force. Stop running, take a deep breath and welcome it with an open mind. I have a theory as to why we’re seeing a resurgence of decades past: Netflix. Netflix is a gateway to a greater time. A time when TV was a force of nature. It once had the power to dictate the fashion trends, and Netflix is giving it back its power. New generations are being exposed to shows full of ’90s fashion such as Friends, Fuller House and an endless supply of ’90s rom-coms. I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t be more excited. Looking for outfit-inspiration, I came across the Perry Ellis spring 1993 ready-to-wear show. It’s so laid-back and casual just like the best part of the ’90s. It’s full of clingy sweaters, thin spaghetti straps and bare midriffs. Perry Ellis kept it cohesive by making most of the looks one-toned. It started out with a variety of pastels and transitioned into stripes and bold florals, but even the bold prints were kept one-toned.

My favorite part about a ’90s resurgence is the fact that I finally have an excuse to channel Jennifer Aniston circa the earlier seasons of Friends. Here, I am pictured wearing a sweater crop top, vintage “mom” jeans and Birkenstocks. If that doesn’t say ’90s, I don’t know what does! In my experience, I have found that the best place to find ’90s-inspired clothing is the thrift store. Maybe that’s because a lot of the clothes there are actually from the ’90s… Oh well! That’s even better.

With this specific outfit, I took notes from Perry Ellis and kept everything neutral and monotoned. My tight fitting sweater would have fit into the show perfectly, but I made it my own by pairing it with old jeans instead of a coordinating skirt.

Get My Look: 1. Go to the thrift store. 2. Find Jennifer Aniston’s old jeans. 3. Celebrate with an episode (or 10) of Friends or shop here: 1. Crop top. 2. Vintage jeans. 3. Birkenstocks.
