(To the tune of “Hello” by Adele) Hello, It’s me, I was wondering if after you clicked on my bio link you’d like to meet…
Hi there! My name is Ali Daly and I attend Ryerson University for creative industries. I’m 20 years old from Toronto, Canada (Go Raptors!) and I am extraordinarily excited to be a Style Guru this summer for CollegeFashionista!
You know in The Godfather: Part III when Michael Corleone says, “Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in?” That’s sort of the relationship I have with fashion. I’m a super creative mind and I find myself trying to pursue all kinds of creative projects involving dance, music, film and photography. I always saw fashion as a hobby not necessarily a career option. I have come to realize that something keeps pulling me back to it no matter how hard I try to move on. So I finally decided it’s time to embrace the Fashionista within.
I would call my style urban chic with a hint of plaid. I don’t follow trends and I’m not really willing to spend more than $20 on any article of clothing. Not just because I’m a broke university student, but because I am the master of thrifting. I’m kind of like a cool vintage magnet. You know the part in Mean Girls where Karen can tell if it’s raining from her boobs? That’s me with thrifting. I have a sixth sense for good deals.
Besides vintage clothing, my second passion in fashion would be sneakers. I’m a complete sneaker head, my roommate actually thinks I have a problem. I am a firm believer that a pair of shoes can make or break an outfit. Currently, I’m obsessed with Vans and the new adidas nomad collection. One day I hope to design my own pair of sneakers.
What I love most about fashion is the ability to express yourself. Fashion is a universal medium because whether we know it or not, we are making choices when we wear clothes and those choices represent who we are. When I see strangers on the street I actually feel like I know them just based on what they are wearing (again back to the sixth sense thing) fashion has given me the ability to express who I am and I am very grateful for that.
I’m looking forward to this summer with CollegeFashionista, stay tuned for more posts from me and all the other amazing Style Gurus!
