My grandmother always told me, “It is always better to be overdressed than underdressed. True elegance comes from within.”
I have never felt identified with one type of style. Labels such as preppy, tomboy or cute have never felt right to me. To me, my style is unknown and always evolving. I don’t like to be labeled with as just one type of style or trend. I take inspiration from each trend and then remix it into my own style. I believe true style comes from within. You are the one that gives your clothes the power when you wear them. An outfit doesn’t inspire if it isn’t worn with confidence. Confidence comes from within the person, from the person that feels comfortable enough in their own skin that the clothes are just an addition or extra boost. Confidence is the only true accessory for a great outfit.
I come from Caracas, Venezuela but immigrated out of the country to Miami, FL. I get inspiration from my own culture and heritage. As a proud Latina, I follow my heart when I buy clothes; I let my passion drive me. The type of clothes I buy is a reflection of my own personality so they have to be comfortable and bright. I love colors and patterns, but my true love lies with stripes and boyfriend jeans. I can never say no to a good pair of sneakers. I do not discriminate clothes because of their brand. My mother taught me how to find the true value in clothes despite the name tag it has. Again, it is you, the wearer, who gives the clothes the elegance, finesse and power.
What I hope to achieve by being a CollegeFashionista Style Guru is a documentation of the evolution of fashion in all its identities and aspects. To show all the different faces of fashion and the extent of people’s creativity through their clothes, including my own. Let’s have some fun this summer!
