Hi Fashionistas/os! My name is Emily Vasquez and I’m so excited to be writing for CollegeFashionista this summer! I’m currently a senior at the University of South Florida where I’m majoring in professional writing, rhetoric and technology. I’ve always had an affinity towards writing and this chance to share my campus style observations with all you lovelies is amazing, since I’ll be writing on a subject I love.
The reason I like to say “style” rather than “fashion”, is because of this quote by the amazing designer, Oscar De La Renta (may he RIP): “Fashion is a trend, style is within a person.”
More so than simply following the fashion industry and trends, I believe that style is what makes all the difference in the world–it’s what separates us, identifies us and is our artful expression to the world that is our runway. Okay, okay… maybe I’m getting a bit carried away, but I have to say style is pretty important. And that’s why I’m stoked about being a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista this summer!
As for my personal style, it honestly constantly varies, but IÂ always try to add a refined touch to my looks. Whether I’m sporting all black (which is what most of my wardrobe consists of, really) or am lounging in athleisure, I like to make sure there’s that hint of class. At heart, I’m a girly girl and love being dressed up.
Lately I’ve been adding a lot of white in my wardrobe (trying to combat the intense Florida sun and humidity). I paired this floral H&M dress with a chain cross-body bag and spiked Betsey Johnson bracelet (FYI, these shoes are the comfiest pair ever). I think the chain detail and spikes give it an edgier, youthful look, while the white, floral and pearls keep it refined.
Again, I’m stoked for this summer and hope you all enjoy my posts. Have an AMAZING summer Fashionistas/os!
