Hi Fashionistas! My name is Madison Samuels, a student at Orange Coast College in sunny Southern California. I am currently taking the business major route, but I want to switch to a major that will enable me to use my creative side, such as writing!
I am not necessarily a cookie-cut type of gal when it comes to fashion. I like to explore outside the lines and take risks. I inherit my creative side from my mother and grandmother. My mother is an interior designer and her eye is drawn to pops of color and unique objects that other people would refer to as “funky.”
When I was in elementary school, I participated in a summer fashion runway camp. We would create outfits out of toilet paper, garbage bags and even bubble wrap. I still remember camp, as if it were yesterday. It influenced and taught me that fashion is all around you and can be created anyway the designer wants. Fashion does not have to follow any specific guidelines.
Working in a high end retail store allows me to use my creative side and fashion sense to dress up mannequins with new merchandise. My coworkers say, “Hey, looks like an outfit you would wear, Madison.” I laugh and say, “I will match the mannequin, after I receive my paycheck.”
Currently, my fashion obsession consists of shoes. Summer is around the corner, so is pedicure season. It’s time to wear open toed shoes and show off the vibrant colored nail polish on your toes. Espadrilles are up and coming this season, filling up the department store’s shelves. I recently just purchased a red pair of suede espadrilles. I chose red because it is a very cheery and joyful color. People approach me and ask, “Where did you find those adorable shoes?” As I mentioned earlier, I like to be different and unique when it comes to fashion, but still on-trend.
Once I receive my next paycheck, I am going to purchase a pair of flare, light wash jeans. Light wash jeans are ideal for the summer season since it will not soak up heat from the sun like dark denim will. I already have an outfit planned in my head to wear with these jeans. I am going to pair the jeans with a floral, or light colored, off-the-shoulder blouse, with tan wedges.
Find a pair of eye-catching shoes and do not be afraid to strut down the boardwalk this summer!
