Hello Fashionistas/os! My name is Mimi Trenkle, and I am excited to start my junior year at The University of Tennessee at Knoxville this fall. My major is retail and consumer science with a minor in business administration. I am very focused on my education and thankful that it is helping me move closer to my dream of working in the luxury fashion industry. This is my second time being a Style Guru and I am very excited to share my summer posts with you!
Coming from a background of sales, personal styling and blogging, my goal is to turn my love for fashion into a career in the luxury department store industry. I want to help others express themselves through their wardrobe choices. The right outfit combined with confidence can move you from ordinary into extraordinary. Yes, you can pull off that look, so go for it!
Confidence is key and that is what my style icons all have in common with one another. My personal style varies day to day and the inspiration behind most of my outfits comes from a variety of fashion forward personalities. I really love Alexa Chung, Jeremy Scott, Sophia Amoruso, Olivia Palermo, Chiara Ferragni and Bella Hadid. They each have their own unique style that sets them apart because they stay true to themselves.
I am very fascinated with the relationship between the fashion and music industries, and I cannot think of a band without remembering their style of dress. I love following my favorite artists to see how their on stage wardrobes are influenced by music, fashion or art. The on and off stage looks from Gwen Stefani, Lana Del Rey, Debbie Harry, Stevie Nicks, Rihanna and Florence Welch are my favorites. I have to mention the late David Bowie and Prince for their amazing and unique style and music.
My first look for the summer is full of ’70s influence. This outfit starts with crisp white bell flare jeans from Express. Pairing the jeans with a white and blush bell sleeve top creates a fabulous look that is bright and fresh and airy. Warm accessories in shades of light brown, white, and gold add polish. My Tory Burch cross-body bag keeps the outfit casual with soft brown leather and gold hardware. I kept jewelry simple with a cute gold cat ring from kate spade. Finally, adding mother of pearl ‘Elle’ earrings by Kendra Scott balances the dainty straps of the cold shoulder blouse. Stevie Nicks, Florence Welch and the fresh feeling of summertime-inspired this look.
