I am back again for another great run on CollegeFashionista. If this is our first time meeting, hello, my name is Makenzie and I’m a senior fashion merchandising major at the University of Delaware, which means this is the beginning of my last year at CollegeFashionista.
We’ve already done this a few times before, so let’s dig a little deeper into my 20 year fashion history. Let’s get a little more personal, shall we? I was born in Boston, and my parents ate hot wings and watched the Red Sox game during the delivery. My first crush’s name was Johannes, and kindergarten Makenzie thought he was the cutest. I ate almost exclusively chicken fingers and french fries until the age of seven. Then, I did cheerleading for nine years and loved the high ponytails and pleated skirts. Also, I was always the chubby kid and I wore tons of layers, because I was convinced that helped. I was the first to wear colored skinny jeans during middle school. In fact, I got my first pair of Converse All-Stars in the eighth grade, which was a big moment. I always got in trouble for wearing hats during in high school, but I would always get away with it by saying that it was part of my ensemble. I wore six inch heels despite the fact that I was almost six foot by the age of 15. Finally, I found my favorite piece of clothing at 17 years old, and that’s right friends, you’re looking at it.
Now for all of my close friends, yes the Jerry jacket has finally made it to CollegeFashionista. I didn’t think I could drag it out any longer, this baby had to make an appearance. For those of you who don’t already know, my camo jacket is a part of me as my left foot. I wear it about four days a week and I’ve been collecting patches for it since I bought it. According to the jacket, my name is Jerry (I actually respond to it now), I’m in the Girl Scouts and I’m a Landmark security officer. Also, there’s a tribute to my favorite show, Broad City, with a little Bingo Bronson tucked under one of the arms. Throw a little feminist patch on the back and voilà, you have me represented in a piece of clothing. It’s definitely one of a kind.
While the jacket pulls everything together and gives it my signature flair, the rest of the outfit is still important too. I’m obsessed with overalls lately, so when I saw this pair from Levi Brand Jeans, I knew I needed to grab it. I paired with a striped dress from Forever 21, because it adds contrast to the white piece; you can find something similar at Madewell. Throw on some easy sneakers and sunnies, and you’ve got the look.
Make sure you’re checking back to see more content from my summer back home in Boston, and I’ll catch you later.
