Hello fellow Fashionistas! My name is Sonali Netke and I am so excited to be starting my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista, and being able to share my personal style with you all.
Let me start by telling you guys a little bit about me. I am from California, and just finished my first year of college as an undergrad business major. Some of my favorite things include dogs, Grey’s Anatomy, baking, photography and makeup.
I absolutely love everything about fashion and style. I believe that fashion is one of the many outlets people utilize to express themselves and their individual personalities. I have to admit, I do not have the time to put together a cute outfit everyday, especially as a busy college student. We all have those days when a T-shirt, sweatpants and a messy bun are all we need to get through the day. However, I love the days when I am able to take my time to put together an outfit that makes me feel confident and ready to take on the day.
It is amazing that something as simple as a flattering little black dress can increase your happiness by so much and make you feel invincible. This is the hidden power of fashion, it has the ability to transform yourself on the inside through what you wear on the outside. If you love what you are wearing, that’s what matters most.
I consider my personal style to be simplistic and girly. After going through my closet multiple times, I have discovered that I mainly stick to the same few neutral colors: black, light grey, dark grey, light pink and the occasional forest green, if I’m feeling adventurous. Staying true to my Californian roots, I am a sucker for sundresses, long skirts, jean shorts and leggings. In fact, you will find one of those in almost every one of my outfits.
This is why I love fashion. I love the flexibility of clothing and the fact that you can style 10 different outfits using the same dress. Plus, wearing a single pair of black stilettos can make you feel on top of the world. Fashion is so much more than just clothing and accessories. As Coco Chanel said, “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”
Remember that fashion is so much more than the clothes you put on your body, it is a representation of you. So I encourage you all to get out there, rock what you wear and show the world who you really are.
