STYLE GURU STYLE: Monochrome Madness

Contrary to popular belief, fashion doesn’t have to be complicated to be trendy. This is a major lesson I took away from the Marc Jacobs fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection from New York Fashion Week. The collection featured simple and mostly black outfits and showcased plenty of grungy, cool-girl vibes complimented by copious amounts of black liner and lipstick. The show was praised for the way it harkened back to eras gone by, including the trademark black and white polka dot getups donned in the Edie Sedgwick era. For my look, I drew upon this classic theme of black and white.

I am very much a fan of earth tones and simple color schemes. Monochrome looks have always been one of my staples, as they are simple and easy to replicate. They include a feeling of timeless elegance and sophistication and are perfect for a plethora of events. Much of my wardrobe happens to be filled with black and white, so the Marc Jacobs show incorporated so much of what I love about fashion into one collection.

I wanted to create a simple, easy to wear outfit that was perfect for everything from running errands to going on a lunch date. My outfit featured a simple pair of white denim shorts, paired with a flowy, bohemian style black blouse. I finished off the look with a set of layered necklaces, statement sunglasses and my handy backpack for a bit of added edginess. I also went for my well-loved Vans skater shoes, which are perfect for whatever adventures the day takes you on.
