STYLE GURU STYLE: Classic Color Contrasts

I’ve been a huge Burberry fan for as long as I can remember. My love for the brand has grown substantially in the past month or so, but I have yet to figure out if this is due to me wearing my trench coat nearly every day in Paris, or due to my incurable craving for one of their classic plaid scarves. Either way, this addiction won’t be going away anytime soon.

With summer here I was excited to see the arrival of so many 2017 resort collections. However, I have yet to find Burberry’s. While waiting for its arrival, I decided to look through past Burberry resort collections and I fell in love with their collection from 2012—Featuring models Cara Delevingne and Edie Campbell. I loved the collection’s combinations of neutral tones with bolder hues of the same color genre, such as navy paired with electric blue and compilations of cream, tan and brown.

No doubt my favorite look from this collection was number 22 worn by Edie Campbell. To try and mimic this look I started with a trench coat, as it is the one wardrobe piece no other designer can compete with. Sadly my trench coat is not from Burberry, but it is still a treasured staple piece that everyone, man or woman, should own. It’s ability to go from day to night and work to weekend makes it an ideal investment.

To reference earlier looks which featured two-toned blue pieces, I wore my simple cut navy dress. The key to this look is to use simple wardrobe pieces and elaborate accessories. The stilettos worn by both Cara and Edie are tall, extravagant and no doubt unique. Also, Edie’s bright blue bag contrasts greatly against her neutral trench coat. To pull these details into my interpretation of the look, I paired my outfit with my blue Juicy Couture bag and my favorite pair of BCBGMAXAZRIA heels. The two different shades of blue from my dress and bag as well as the brown and tan color combinations from my shoes and coat both reference several looks from the collection, while the combination of my coat, bag and shoes are a direct reference to this specific look.

Get My Look: 1. Trench coat. 2. Stilettos. 3. Bright bag.
