My most recent obsession is with chokers. The ’90s really are back in style! Thick chokers, thin chokers, metal chokers or velvet chokers, whichever type of choker it is, they are truly the “it” accessory of this year. The Instagram feeds of the top models of today, Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid, are flooded with chokers. What is it about chokers that gather so much appeal? To me, a choker is a way to transform a boring look into something fabulous and effortlessly-chic in a second. It is the piece that brings a whole outfit together, while also framing your face beautifully.
Inspiration for chokers can be seen in the Balmain fall 2016 ready-to-wear runway show. The statement chokers that the models in this show rock are visually striking and a major component of their looks, opposed to being just an accompanying accessory.
I chose to wear this choker in order to make an outfit that would otherwise be boring and bare into something chic and on trend. The choker that I am wearing balances out the large amount of exposed neck and chest from the neckline of this dress. I made this choker myself from ribbon that I purchased from Michael’s, which is a cheap way to incorporate today’s trends into your everyday looks. I personally like the look of the ribbon tied on my neck, opposed to a clasp, as it makes the look feel a bit more boho.
