When you hear the word “camouflage,” what immediately comes to mind? Maybe you thought of a hunter preparing for a hunt or military personnel engaged in combat. Chances are, you didn’t instinctively think of fashion. No one is quite sure when or where it started, but camouflage has become an important trend on the runway and in street style fashion over the past several decades.
Take Cady Heron (Lindsey Lohan) for example, who influenced the style of a fellow classmate in the movie Mean Girls, after she was seen strutting the halls in “army pants and flip flops”. This trend is not only seen in basic shirts and pants. Today, camouflage comes in a variety of styles and accessories; from high-heeled boots to headbands and phone cases. Camouflage may be for blending in, but a simple addition of this forest-like pattern to any daytime outfit is sure to make you stand out.
So how does one pull off such a unique look? This Fashionista merged simplicity and style by adding a camouflage jacket and other accessories to a basic summer outfit. The simple white T-shirt and high-waisted jean shorts allow the jacket to remain the center of attention. Her rings and hemp twine necklace are subtle enough that they don’t pull away from the jacket, but rather compliment the casual ensemble.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “The biggest thing to keep in mind with camouflage is that too much can tend to look tacky. I suggest starting with neutral greens and browns, then gradually working your way up to the bolder camouflage patterns.”
