While I may be just an average fashion lover, Yves Saint Laurent is a personality who I have been fascinated with for sometime. I find him and his legacy very interesting and inspiring. The Saint Laurent fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection made me admire the brand even more. With its emphasis on sleek black with pops of metallic and color, Saint Laurent perfectly captured my style on a much grander scale.
I took inspiration from the collection by using a Forever 21 black leather overall dress as my central focus. Black leather is a common occurrence in this show, but I chose the overalls to tone down the look and make it work for a more everyday look. While this outfit can still be considered a bit flashy for daily wear it is not as extravagant as the runway wear of Saint Laurent. Taking a cue from the bright colored heels the models in the show wore, I slid on my grandmother’s pink faux alligator heels from the ’80s. The color fits the bright shoes of the collection and the ’80s vibe the designs give off.
Playing off Saint Laurent’s use of metallics, I incorporated a Forever 21 shiny gold crop top to contrast against the black leather. The crop top allowed me to show a little skin which is another trend in Saint Laurent’s fallcollection While Saint Laurent shows skin through dropping necklines and short hemlines, the crop top fit into my personal style better.
The makeup and hair on the models is basically identical. They all have dark eyes, red lips and slicked back hair. I did a slightly smoky eye which is more appropriate for daily use than the racoon eyes of the models. I then chose to swap the red lipstick for NYX liquid suede in pink lust. I did this because red lipstick doesn’t look good on me and the pink complemented the faux alligator heels. Lastly, I decided against slicked back hair and let mine fall naturally.
