Ahoy, Fashionista/os! Classes in July can be a real summer bummer! But, with the right outfit and mindset, you can cure the summer blues! For me, high-waisted pants are a staple piece in my wardrobe that boost my confidence and my mood. They lengthen your legs and accentuate your waist and add a touch of sophistication to any look. Paired with a lightweight chambray shirt and some fun wedges, I’m sailing away to a fashion vacation destination!
Taking inspiration from Derek Lam spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection, I mixed casual and comfy pieces together to create a look reminiscent of the show’s leisurely, nautical cruise style. Rebecca Minkoff spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection also was a source of inspiration with her neutral, classic castaway style that was ever-present on the runway this season.
Nautical style is timeless and always popular in the summer and is extremely versatile in the fact that it can go casual or dressy. With this outfit, my goal was to create an ensemble that can make you look and feel like you’re sailing overseas when you’re really studying for exams, writing papers or running around campus.
My outfit consists of a tied blue chambray shirt paired with high-waisted sailor pants. A touch of color is added with a red and white striped handbag and a hand carved animal bracelet from Africa adds to the adventurous, travel feel. Wedges with a bit of sparkle and some classic Burberry sunglasses add more of a dressed-up vibe to the otherwise casual outfit.
Wide leg trousers are so flattering and offer that nautical feel I am going for and gives an illusion of long legs (every girl’s dream!) Paired with chambray and stripes, this look is timeless and will never go out of style. These separates come together to create a comfy, trendy look that’s perfect for a day of classes and running errands, a night out or an impromptu weekend beach vacation!
Get My Look: 1. A Chambray shirt. 2. Pair of wide-leg pants. 3. Striped handbag.
