When clicking through my monthly Vogue runway updates this July, the one collection that truly stuck out in my mind from the others was the spring 2017 menswear collection of Faith Connexion. Every item of clothing on the first look embodies the style of classic rock ‘n’ roll, which I adore. The entire collection brought together leather, stonewashed denim, studs and thick-chained accessories while still pushing the limits of trends that have already defined rebellion in the fashion industry.
I’m so happy that this collection caught my eyes when it did, because I was able to use bits and pieces from it as inspiration for my look when attending the Guns N’ Roses concert in Chicago the following week. I knew that I wanted to embody rock ‘n’ roll in my outfit, as Faith Connexion did in its collection, while still reinventing it the classic trends used.
I started with the main pieces that classic rock ‘n’ roll style cannot do without, such as stonewashed denim and leather. For these two, I sported a distressed denim jean with a high waist and my oversized leather jacket, which can also double as a leather vest. When it comes to Chicago weather, you never truly know if it will be 90 degrees and sunny or 50 degrees and pouring rain until the last possible second, so just in case, I wanted whatever was under the leather to be as cool as the jacket itself. Although a plain white T-shirt is a great edition to any classic rock ‘n’ roll look, I wanted a little more detail so I threw on a dainty, black bralette underneath. The lace of the bralette peeping out from the T-shirt definitely gave my look a reinvented rebellious touch that it was missing. Instead of the white leather cowboy boots styled in each look of Faith Connexion’s collection, I took a simple tan, suede bootie heel and added it to give my inspired look the same polished feel. To top it all off, I added a simple black hat with thin leather trim around it to add a little more intricate detail to the outfit.
As far as beauty goes for this look, you don’t need to overdo it since the outfit is edgy enough itself. Have fun with a tousled locks and slightly smudged liner, but instead of a bright red lip which is so typical for this look, I prefer to tone it down with a soft pink lip to keep this look from becoming a Halloween costume. Long Live rock ‘n’ roll!
