With the changes taking place in society at the moment, it’s no surprise fashion is changing along with the times. Most noticeable is the shift taking place in the cut of denim from the early 2000s style skinny jean to the current choices of culottes, straight leg, boyfriend, flare, or mom jeans. Along with the shift in cut, from skinny to literally anything else, also comes frayed ripped edges rather than clean, hemmed edges.
Veronique Branquinho’s resort 2017 collection showcases denim in multiple forms—from a floor-length maxi skirt to wide-leg trousers to a collared vest. Juxtaposed to the denim is white lace blouses creating a soft, feminine look. While these looks are simple in style the white, poet blouses feature intricate lace detailing. Besides denim and white lace, Branquinho also brings wooden touches to the outfits through the use of wooden beads on the blouses and thick, wooden clog-style heels.
When creating my look, I wanted to go for a simple, bohemian style that would incorporate all of the major trends from Branquinho’s resort collection. I chose a pair of straight leg, raw hem jeans in a lighter blue wash than that used in Branquinho’s collection. While Branquinho’s collection features shapeless, loose garments I chose instead to wear a pair of jeans with a more fitted look through the thighs that then becomes loose in the calf. I paired my denim with a loose white blouse that has lace panels down the sleeves. To incorporate wood details into my look I chose chunky, clog heels in a dark wood stain as well as a handmade wooden necklace.
