Hey there Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Allyson and I am a junior at the University of Michigan. For the past two years, I have been working towards a degree in communication studies with a minor in writing. While I am not formally studying fashion, my love for clothing grows with each button on my jeans and each bangle on my wrist. One day I hope to work in fashion PR, giving me the opportunity to combine my love for writing with my love for fashion.
As a young girl, I was always told to be the best-dressed woman in any room. And while it might sound cliché, I took that to heart and it has stuck with me ever since. When I was in elementary school, I wrote an award winning dream career speech on what I wanted to be when I grew up: a fashion designer. There was just something about the way Vanna White on The Wheel of Fortune strutted across the stage in her name brand gowns that made me want to know more. I wondered if one day she could be wearing one of my name brand gowns.
While I no longer want to be a fashion designer simply because I have too many interests, I find the combination of styles that I see around me to be particularly fascinating. Though I am not totally sure that I can pull off a lot of the styles I see, I am always inspired to take a few risks and try something new.
When it comes to my style, I tend to stick to the basics. Less is more, right? It is no surprise that when I saw this casual black romper, I knew I just had to have it. While I like to keep my look pretty simple, I don’t believe an outfit is complete without the right pair of shoes and a handbag. And if you’re anything like me, you won’t leave the house without a fresh coat of nail polish and a little lipgloss.
I have been fortunate enough to explore my imagination out in the real world and I could not be more thankful for that. As the summer comes to a close and I return to campus, I could not be more excited to join the CollegeFashionista team as a Style Guru and bring you all on this journey with me.
