STYLE GURU BIO: Natalie Dominguez

Some people say that clothing is nothing but a way to make others feel inferior. In some ways, I do agree. That is the downside of this fascinating realm. However, when fashion is done right, it has the incredible ability to express one’s soul that is what I appreciate the most about fashion. I stand firm in my belief that fashion is art. But in my experience, I have often seen the world of fashion creating a riff of being all-inclusive that it was once intended to be. I am here to fix that.

As for my personal style, I wouldn’t say I try to veer away from what’s popular at the moment, I just don’t go out of my way to follow it. I choose to wear what instills the most confidence in myself. After all, a trend has to start somewhere right? This is also what I feel should be the driving force in fashion: to make one feel good in their own skin. I am into dark colors and monochromatic style. My style is a bit edgy, a bit eclectic and altogether hard to actually identify.

Another passion of mine is music, particularly hard rock and metal. This is a theme that I feel strongly influnces and translates into my style as well. I am in a relationship with a music journalist, so attending concerts is a frequent occurrence and most of my wardrobe is made up of band T-shirts. I’ve learned that those shirts make an excellent conversation starter which also gives others an insight into my personality. This brings me back to the point of how fashion is best used as a way to express oneself.

My goal is to take fashion back to its roots and enforce that it is for everyone. I want to build confidence, represent self-expression and altogether stay genuine to the no rules or regulations idealism that it once had. In my look, I’m wearing a comfy, cool top from Urban Outfitters, my trusty backpack which provides way more functionality than a purse and my go-to weatherized Vans that are perfect for adventures.
