La scimmia legge un libro. Doesn’t everything sound a touch more beautiful in Italian? My two week crash course in the language before departing for this beautiful country has left me a whole seven percent fluent and able to say such useful phrases as the one above: The monkey reads a book.
For those of you who don’t know my name is Danielle Healy and I am a junior at Kent State University. I have been writing with CollegeFashionista for a year now, and have loved every minute. This semester I am lucky enough to be studying abroad at Kent State University’s satellite campus in Florence (Firenze), Italy. I’m taking classes in a field I love and getting to witness a million beautiful things, people and cultures. I couldn’t be more grateful.
So far, my time in Italy has been smooth sailing, beyond the obvious language barrier (which I’m slowly trying to work on). It’s as beautiful as you’d imagine and a city I certainly don’t mind getting lost in. The grocery stores, cars and coffees are tiny, but the intricate architecture of the buildings and art are massive.
I’ve only just begun my semester abroad, but I am really looking forward to being able to bring you all some exciting styles from abroad. Now that the tourist season is in full swing, you have to travel a little outside of the city center to find the locals and their distinctive style. I tried to bring a little Italian chic into my outfit, but I’m far from understanding the full scope of the Italian fashion scene just yet. I’ve seen culottes on a number of different stylish woman, all equipped with unique shoes (most of which look precarious on the cobblestone streets). There is something uniquely old-school, yet simple about most of the looks that I’ve seen, as though the people are trying to blend in with all of the rustic charm of Florence’s winding streets. Because of this I chose a blouse with a high, tied collar and a knit vest in a cool modern color.
I am so looking forward to continuing my journey here in Italy and learning lessons on life and style in this country with so much to offer.
