Friends, family and creepers of the internet, hi. My name is Alanna and I am a junior at Florida State University. I’d like to say that I have learned a lot in my past 20 years. Some skills that I am told are less useful than others, i.e. watching entire seasons of a show within one day and being so sarcastic even I don’t know if I was kidding. Nevertheless, I like to think I have learned a lot of important, useful things too. After three semesters of writing for CollegeFashionista, I have probably learned one of the most important lessons I have ever learned and that is to focus on yourself.
Sounds obvious, right? Well, it’s easier said than done because it feels like there is always someone better. There are always the girls that have the flawless Instagram documenting what seems to be perfect life full of food, travels and cute clothes. Or the ones that get endless views and shares on their articles while your stuck in the double digits. There are always the ones that you see posting pictures of their amazing internships that have them running around New York and LA while you sit at home eating junk food and making to-do lists to help get your life together. And there will always be the ones who just seem like they are killing the game while you are simply poking it with a stick. It seems like someone is always doing better, and honestly, they might be doing better. But that doesn’t mean you’re doing badly. And that took me far too long to realize but that is why I am here to share my infinite wisdom and to tell you that it’s okay if you feel like a hot mess in comparison to everyone around you.
It’s okay, because I guarantee that to someone else you are the one who is killing it and doing everything perfectly. I realized that the same can be said for your style. There will always be the people with the expensive clothes or the ability to pull off anything they put on but that doesn’t make your style any lesser. Because your style isn’t determined by other peoples’ style just like your success isn’t determined by how well others are doing. Moral of this very long and serious epiphany is to just do you! Well, we have reached the end of my babbling.
