Hello Fashionistas/os! My name is Tyler, and this will be my second semester interning with CollegeFashionista as a Style Guru. Starting this fall, I will be going into my senior year at Columbia College Chicago majoring in journalism with a minor in fashion business. Being that this is my last year of college, it’s sort of hitting me that I’m an adult getting ready to be released into the real world.
I chose my major and minor because I love fashion magazines. Fashion magazines can give the reader an inside look into the industry. They can introduce you to potential careers that you never knew existed or give you insight into the lives of celebrities that you’re interested in. Some of my favorites magazines include Teen Vogue, NYLON magazine, Seventeen and Marie Claire. I love every magazine for different reasons and can see myself writing for each of them. But aside from my obsession with magazines, let’s move on to other things about me.
Fun fact: I am a big lover of East Asian cultures and can almost always be found wearing a K-Pop T-shirt. I hope to one day be able to cover my interests in both East Asian cultures and fashion for a magazine. I would love to be able to travel the world and write about people in fashion who you should know (cough, cough Andrew Bevan). Some of my favorite street style photos are taken in Asia, where I enjoy seeing how people in different cities dress compared to others.
I am definitely a tomboy when it comes to my style. I feel that you can never go wrong with a classic pair of jeans and a T-shirt, but have recently found that I am also a shoe girl. I love hats and purses, but will covet shoes for years. A most recent example would be the Dr. Martens that I am wearing. I’ve been wanting a pair since my freshman year of high school, and when I had finally saved enough money my senior year, I bought a pair of smooth, cherry red boots. My excitement died the minute that I realized that I couldn’t fit them. Any smart person would have returned them for a bigger size, but I didn’t think the next size up would fit me properly and kept them as a center piece for my table. Flash forward four years where I go into the actual Dr. Martens store and try on the shoe version of my boot. It fit perfectly! I then go home that day to look at the boot, only to realize that I ordered it a size smaller than my actual shoe size. If my life were a cartoon, a piano would have dropped on my head. But alas, I have bought my dream shoes and am now on the hunt for the most fashionable students on my campus.
