Hey, Fashionistas! My name is Kristen Dudding and this is my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista! I am a sophomore at the University of Kentucky and I am studying fashion merchandising with minors in both business and Spanish! I’ve loved fashion for years but have really grown to appreciate it more with the endless amounts of inspiration available on social media. With that being said, I have a growing interest in social media and branding and hope to explore that even more with the opportunity of being a Style Guru!
This past summer was really my first opportunity to work in the industry. I interned at a local vintage boutique where I was able to merchandise clothing around the store, learn about decade fashion, notice reoccurring trends and even do a bit of trend spotting. Although I didn’t know anything about decade fashion or care much for thrifting in the beginning, it was so much fun to get an eye for vintage and be able to express my creativity throughout the store. Since the internship, I have a new found love for Valentino and my personal style is taking a turn for a more vintage inspired vibe (aka mom jeans galore).
My style has always been pretty minimal. In high school you would rarely see me NOT wearing skin-tight black skinny jeans. While black skinny jeans are most definitely a staple in any girls’ wardrobe, I’m proud to say I’ve finally decided to explore more options, which can be seen in this outfit. I’ve been loving this PERFECT pair of boyfriend jeans this summer, wearing them with everything from striped fitted T-shirts to flowy, woven tops. In this look I opted for a more basic style with a nice black tank that is right in between fitted and flowy. I LIVE for pieces that can be worn in many different ways and complement many styles. I’ve also been living in these white sneakers for a solid 12 months now and don’t plan on dropping them anytime soon. Although my personal style is pretty basic, I love copping a few trendy pieces each season. Gotta mix things up some times!
Now that you know about MY style, stay tuned throughout the semester to check out some rad fits I spot on campus here at UK and around Lexington. Have a great semester y’all!
