This is my second term as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru intern. I am especially excited to have the opportunity to write for the fall semester because it is my favorite time of the year for many reasons. I love the colors, the fabrics, the practicality and style of wearing layers, but most importantly all of the fun fall festivities: corn mazes, apple picking and cider, football games, Halloween, etc.
When I am not working on a piece for CollegeFashionista, I am extremely busy with activities on my university’s campus. I am involved with residence life as a student staff member, a position where I oversee the resident assistants of two first year buildings. I also enjoy spending time playing ultimate Frisbee and volunteering on campus and in the community with my fellow members of Alpha Phi Omega.
I must also admit, I, like many other students at university, spend an incredible amount of time watching Netflix. Currently working on the latest season of New Girl and planning to follow that up with the new season of House of Cards. I don’t spend all of my time vegging out and watching things, though. My daily habits don’t necessarily show it, but eating healthy and living an active lifestyle are incredibly important to me. Exercise is one of the top ways for me to cope with stress. If it was socially acceptable and I was a little more athletic, I would live in active wear.
That being said, fashion is extremely important to me. I don’t have an extravagant budget that allows me to buy all of the articles of clothing that I would like or to keep up with every single trend. I think that it is important to acknowledge that there are so many ways to take what is popular and adapt pieces either from a thrift store or a bargain piece from an affordable retail store such as Kohl’s or Forever 21 in order to make a look your own. I especially love seeing fads replaying themselves. I remember when I had adidas sneakers way back in second grade. adidas Superstars have made a total comeback. That’s the thing I love most, you never know what is around the corner. Some pieces are classic, while others come and go.
Being as busy as I am, I like to keep outfits simple. A few key accessories are all that I need. My favorites at the moment are two pieces that I recently snagged at the farmer’s market while I was at the beach. The necklace consists of three salt water pearls and the bracelet is elegant and versatile. Dresses are optimal because they are great for being something quick to pull on while still looking put together.
