Hey everyone! My name is Fred, and I am a senior at New York University majoring in biochemistry and minoring in child adolescent mental health studies. I am also an athlete on the varsity track and field team. Although my career goal is to become a physician, I am still extremely passionate about fashion. Where I grew up in Tennessee, fashion was never really seen as a means of expression. To most, clothes were just something that kept you covered up so you could get through your day. After spending the past three years in one of the fashion capitals of the world, I changed this perception and took an interest in how I dressed, revamping my whole wardrobe. This will be my second semester writing for CollegeFashionista after taking about a year-long hiatus, so obviously I can’t wait to get things rolling again.
Although I was a sneakerhead growing up, I knew very little about coordinating an entire outfit. When I reflect on how I used to dress in high school, I get the chills and immediately facepalm. It was atrocious. I like to put the blame entirely on the lack of sleep causing me to be disoriented every morning when I would dress myself. My style now is much more subtle and reserved, but I still utilize pieces of clothing from a variety of style categories in my wardrobe. From sports apparel to concert shirts, there is always a balanced combination that can be reached to create a stylish outfit. I truly believe that even with the simplest outfit, you can say a lot about yourself while doing very little. Sometimes less is more.
As the summer starts to wind down and temperatures finally begin to drop, I decided to look ahead and opt for more of a fall look with this outfit. I’m wearing a Champion reverse-weave hoodie over a long black T-shirt from Killion. I’m also rocking my favorite pair of jeans from John Elliott. I have had them for about two years now, and they only seem to be getting better with time. Lastly, I’m laced up in the pirate black adidas Yeezy Boost 350s. I love Kanye’s music and style, so it was only right that I show these some love. This past year in New York, I was lucky enough to reserve a pair on the adidas app and avoid having to give an arm and a leg for them. One word that describes this look: comfortable.
If I’m not studying in the library or running laps on the track, you can find me in line at a pop-up shop or just hanging out with friends in someone’s apartment. My close friends and I have frequent conversations about fashion, and we are even in the process of creating our own clothing line. Once again, I am ecstatic to be back with CollegeFashionista, and I hope you check back with me for monthly style tips.
