Hey fashion lovers! My name is Robyn Bell and I’m a senior at Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada, majoring in journalism.
It’s hard to pinpoint the genesis of my love for clothing, though my mother likes to point out that I began dressing myself before I learned to walk. Many fancy dinner parties thrown by my parents were ruined (or as I like to think, heightened) by my insistence on wearing blue lipstick and a sparkly wig.
While I’ve ditched the blue lips, I still love to experiment with my clothes and change my style frequently. I obsessively hoard copies of Vogue, Fashion and Nylon and refer to them for inspiration whenever I’m in an outfit rut.
Coming from British Columbia, Toronto was a pretty major adjustment for me. Though I’m still a West Coast hippy at heart, I’ve found living in a big city has allowed me the perfect amount of anonymity to grow as an individual, particularly in the style department. I no longer fret about being overdressed among the oh-so-loved hiking boots and yoga pants of my hometown—I can run around the city in my (occasionally ostentatious) outfits without anyone batting an eye.
Ryerson in particular seems to draw a fashionable crowd, with most students bringing their style A-game to school everyday. It’s been amazing to see how everyone showcases their personality through their wardrobes over the past three years.
Outside of school my free time is usually filled with Netflix and an ample amount of sleep, however I can always be lured from my apartment by Toronto’s incredible music scene, Queen West’s vintage shops or simply the promise of nachos and beer.
This is my first semester with CollegeFashionista and I can’t wait to get back to the 6ix to garner some style inspo from all the Fashionista/os on Ryerson’s campus.
