What’s up, Fashionistas? My name is Montana and I can’t believe it’s already my fourth semester with CollegeFashionista. So in order to get to know me I need to tell you a little bit about my life, let’s get started. I spent my whole live living about 30 minutes outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but I decided to spent my college years in a different state. I am currently a sophomore at Kent State University and I am studying fashion merchandising with a minor in photo illustration.
Ever since I was a kid, I’ve always dreamed of what it would be like to live in New York City. After I’m done studying at Kent State University, I hope to be able to move to the Big Apple to pursue a career in the fashion industry. Not only is fashion a big part of my life, but photography has also become very important to me throughout the years. When I was younger, I would always steal my mother’s camera so that I could try to snap the artsiest photos of things around the house. Though these may not have been the best pictures I have ever taken, I began to realize that photography was something that I may want to pursue when I got older. During high school I spent most of my time in the dark room, developing photos the old fashioned way, for all of my photography classes. Once I am able to get myself settled in NYC, I’m hoping to open up my own studio.
When it comes to fashion, I always knew it was very important to me. As a kid I always hated that my mom wouldn’t let me pick out my own clothes. When I was finally old enough to go shopping on my own, I realized how therapeutic it was to go out and bring home a whole new outfit. For people like me who are very quiet and not very good at showing who they really are, fashion is the perfect way to break through that shell. All my life I’ve been able to express my personality through every single outfit that I wear and it has helped me become who I am today.
Just before I moved, it was my birthday week so, of course, I had to dress up to go out to dinner. Since it’s not quite fall yet, I found this summery dress that I thought had some very cool cutout details. To accessorize, I didn’t need too much since the dress has its own detail, I tried to keep it simple by just adding a cuff bracelet and some stacked rings. In order to dress it up a little bit, but still keep it simple, I added a pair of strappy wedges that I found sitting in the back of my closet.
