Hey Fashionistas/os! My name is Minyon McCray, but I go by Min for short. I am super excited to start my first semester as a Style Guru this fall. Currently, I am a senior at Marygrove College and I’m double majoring in psychology and business with a concentration in marketing. I hope to work as a fashion buyer and someday start my own clothing company since I love to sketch and draw outfits.
I have been passionate about the fashion industry since I was a little kid. Growing up, my mom would always take me shopping and dress me up no matter the occasion. Back then I didn’t really appreciate the many shopping trips or my mom’s fashion insight, but as I grew up I realized that she is the reason for my fashion obsession. Plus, how many people get to say they learned and understood color coordination as a child? Personally, I am drawn to fashion because the industry is always shifting, changing and looking ahead to the future, the next trend or even the next great designer who is going to take the world by storm. In fashion, there is no time to slow down and think about anything other than what is coming next. I need something in my life that is just as free spirited as I am, something that is going to change and evolve with me as a person.
Outside of the fashion industry, I love all things having to do with artistic expression which is why I am mostly passionate about the creative arts. I have always been curious about many different things which has also led me to become passionate about art, writing, music and learning about other cultures. In my spare time, you can always catch me painting, drawing, reading or writing.
So what is my personal style? Honestly, I don’t have a set style. My style is based on my mood, so it changes often in order to express every aspect of my personality. It can go from classic and timeless like Audrey Hepburn to edgy like Rihanna. I used to only like structured simple outfits, but now I am more open to different styles and tastes. I prefer to dress in a way that stands out from the crowd, so I look for edgy unique accessories and patterns.
For this look, I went with high-waisted plaid shorts (which gave me major Cher from Clueless vibes) and paired it with a classic white top. I decided to give it an edgier look by accessorizing it with a statement choker, studded wedges, a bronze clutch and stackable rings.
I cannot wait to see what this semester has in store for me as I begin this journey with CollegeFashionista!
