Hello and welcome, Fashionistas/os! My name is Natalie Joniec, a Michigan-born girl who happened to fall in love with one big city: Chicago. This fall you’ll find me at Columbia College Chicago, studying journalism with a focus in magazine. I believe that magazines are such a great platform for fashion; writing about what’s trending in one like Vogue and Glamour are my real life goals. I’m so excited to be apart of the Style Guru gang! Moving from a small town right outside of Detroit to the big city of Chicago, my personal style is currently going through a major change and finally upgrading to what I’ve always loved in fashion. I recently purged more than three quarters of my wardrobe to aid to this important change!
I’ve always loved minimalists, the basics and statement pieces. If you’re unfamiliar, the “minimalist wardrobe” is ultimately making more out of less clothing. Owning only a few tops and bottoms makes creating an outfit become much easier! I also have a love for the basics. Plain white tees, jeans and solid colors are my go-to. I am notorious for buying such basic items, but at the end of the day, you can’t go wrong with the basics! In contrast to my other loves in fashion, I have a mild of obsession with making a statement when it comes to what I’m wearing. What better way to spruce up an outfit from my minimalist wardrobe than with a huge gold plated necklace or Kate Spade watch? What about having to wear something professional that jewelry just can’t give justice to? I find myself trying to make a statement with a pop of color in my heels or makeup. I was the girl my senior year of high school to wear a white and nude two piece dress…who totally rocked “making a statement” with my bright coral Jessica Simpson pumps! It made a great conversation starter the entire evening. Talk about a pop of color!
For this look, I decided to start with a plain white T-shirt paired with ripped American Eagle skinny jeans and a comfortable green jacket. For my shoes, I chose my Steve Madden black leather quilted slip ons that are great for walking around all day! And to top if off, I have my Jessica Simpson aviators and Alex and Ani bracelets that I adore.
Regardless, ones personal style should reflect them as a person. It’s a way to express yourself! I believe that three things: Style encourages confidence. Style promotes creativity. Style is universal. I am so excited to share this journey with you fashionistas/os and again, welcome!
