STYLE GURU BIO: Zoe Bernstein

A new semester, a new STYLE GURU BIO, a new me.

Hello friends! I’m thrilled to be back for my fourth semester with CollegeFashionista. Starting this fall, I will be a junior at the Fashion Institute of Technology studying advertising and marketing communications and minoring in international trade and marketing, psychology and Mandarin Chinese. During my year with CollegeFashionista, I had the amazing opportunity to meet the team and was featured in their new #StyleGuruHighlight series. I can’t wait to see what this next semester holds in store.

For some of you who already know me, I might look a bit different from my last STYLE GURU BIO. This past summer, I took a leap and cut over 10 inches of my hair. My original goal was lavender tips, however I ended up walking out of the salon with my complete head pink. Oh well, life is all about taking risks and living to the fullest, right?

Aside from being a student in the midst of the hustle and bustle of New York City, I am your just average millennial guilty for always being glued to my computer (or phone), whether it be for studying, working in Photoshop or attempting to teach myself the basics of makeup through YouTube tutorials. When I find the time, I enjoy my technology cleanse by situating myself into a cozy nook of a bookstore with a new read. Any other Haruki Murakami fans out there?

I recently left the residence halls in Manhattan and moved into my own (small) apartment in Brooklyn. The moving process as well as my new lack of closet space has forced me to suppress my inner hoarder tendencies and become more minimalistic. By doing so, it has made me appreciate my go-to wardrobe pieces more and helped me hone in on what my “personal style” really is, or rather what it’s becoming. I’m constantly finding my inspiration from ’90s pop culture and music. Flannels? Yes. Chokers? Always. Babydoll dresses? Well, I’m wearing one for my article, aren’t I? I am also a girl of many hats, as you can see in from my article. No matter what the season may be, you can almost guarantee that I will have a beanie, baseball cap or wide brim hat on my head.

I hope you’re all ready to make this semester another memorable one with me and the CollegeFashionista community, I know I am!
