While the weather may have just started to change, it seems like fall is already running away from us. Somehow we’re nearly into October and we’re finding it easier and easier to get swept up in craziness of our everyday lives.
But, this month, we were inspired by Rachel Zoe to hit the pause button. She recently teamed up with eBay for a special backpack collection to benefit Save the Children.
We took some time to get to know both the cause and one of our Style Gurus on a deeper level. We sat down with Norah Murphy, a junior at Parsons School of Design, to pick her brain on five things we didn’t already know about her.
CollegeFashionista: So, you’re studying Design and Management at Parsons, how did you decide Parsons was the right school for you?
Norah Murphy: I applied to Parsons thinking there was no way I would get in because they have such an amazing name in the industry. After a lot of hard work, I was accepted and immediately fell in love with the creative atmosphere.
CF: That’s amazing. Do you have a favorite college memory so far?
NM: When I was a freshman, I volunteered for a fashion show called Fusion, a sort of competition between Parsons and FIT. I made so many lasting friendships working there and remember it just being really inspiring to see how talented other students at my school were.
CF: That’s great that you took that opportunity as a freshman. You seem really driven. Tell us about a change you’d like to make in the world.
NM: I’d love to make ethically sourced, sustainable clothing more affordable. Right now, I think there’s the foundation of a movement to shop sustainably, but it’s so difficult to act on it as a college student because it’s hard to afford the clothes. I’d love to keep working on fashion that advances a cause.
CF: Love that! We are totally on board with you, which is actually why we really love this backpack. If you could fill this backpack and travel anywhere today, where would you go?
NM: That’s hard! There are so many incredible places I want to travel, like Amsterdam or the Maldives, but I would choose Positano, Italy. I’d love to see all of the gorgeous fashion and architecture. Relaxing on the beach for a bit wouldn’t be so bad, either.
CF: So, you’re packing a backpack to go to Positano. What are three things you have to have in your carry on?
NM: Headphones, a small makeup bag with mascara and lip balm and a portable charger — I refresh my Instagram feed too much to not have one on me.
We’re passing on the pause button challenge. Before the end of the month, explore five ways fashion can benefit more than just your closet. Want a quick way to do that? Head to eBay before September 30th to contribute to the Save the Children foundation with the purchase of an exclusive backpack.
