In this post, I will be debunking a few fashion “rules.” In my opinion, there are no rules in fashion, and what is most important is always staying true to yourself and wearing what will make you feel most beautiful and confident. A genuine attitude is the most beautiful thing anyone can wear! That said, there are many fashion “rules” that stand to be busted.
One of the most common fashion “faux-pas” is that navy and black should not be worn together. I personally think the combo is great! I styled this marled, navy and white sweater dress with a cropped, black leather jacket and a black, quilted cross-body bag. I topped the look off with another neutral, a pair of gray over-the-knee boots to add some drama and flair to the look. I especially love to bust through this fashion “rule” because I think, contrary to popular belief, navy and black are a great combination. Because both colors are neutrals, it is so easy to style the combination with other bright pops of color, or keep the look simple and toned down by pairing it with another neutral, like I did here. However, it is important to keep in mind while styling this trend that the combination should look deliberate. It can be easy to mix up a dark navy with black; so make sure the navy you choose is bright enough to be obviously contrasted against the black!
Whether it’s wearing white after Labor Day, mixing patterns or only choosing one piece of jewelry, take that risk and make a statement! If you like it, wear it. Fashion should be about expressing yourself. You are all beautiful inside and out, so your clothes will always be a reflection of that. Besides, some rules are meant to be broken!
