STYLE GURU STYLE: Black Never Fails

It wasn’t until I was a junior in high school that I realized I wanted to work toward a career within the fashion industry. I had never thought much about what I wanted to study in college or where I would like to go. Being less than two years away from graduating, I knew the time had come to start making decisions, and I am very thankful to have received the advice I did from my high school guidance counselor-find what you’re passionate about and work toward it every day.

When I was sixteen I really started to realize that I loved fashion. As much as my dad would have liked for me to follow the news, fashion blogs have been the main thing I avidly keep up with. As time progressed, I created a vision in my head of living in a big city and going into work to discuss styles and trends for eight hours a day. I had the opportunity to visit New York City for a fashion program in 2014, and I fell in love with the uniqueness of the city and the life on every street. This experience is what helped me to create a plan for life after high school and realize that my true passion is fashion.

Fashion is an art form and allows everyone to express their own creativity. I love to see different styles and how people show others a glimpse of who they are through the clothes that they wear. Though I’m not from the biggest city, I think I have an urban style with heels being my signature piece. Maybe it’s because I’m 5’3’’ but there’s something about heels that makes me feel confident (and tall). I believe they can be worn with any type of outfit, making the look more noticeable and chic. My go-to color is black, and I’d say that more than half my wardrobe consists of this neutral shade. Black can be worn in any season and never fails to make you look fashionable. While I thought my ripped denim jeans looked better for this outfit, I still enjoy wearing all black looks too.

I purchased this bodysuit from one of my favorite stores, Brandy Melville, and I absolutely love it. Bodysuits are comfortable and slimming and the V-cut of this top gives it the versatility of being casual or dressy. I like to go for more edgy looks with anything I wear so ripped jeans were perfect for this style. I finished off this simple outfit with my favorite pair of black boots. I purchased these shoes from Lola Shoetique, and I couldn’t be happier. The pointed toe aspect and four inch heel make me feel as if I can rule the world (God bless whoever started this trend).
