STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK: Boys Can't Wear Pink

From an early age, kids are often told traditional norms such as pink is a “girl” color while blue is for boys, only girls can paint their nails and do their makeup, etc. However, these ideologies are slowly, but thankfully, fading away. People are realizing how dumb it is to attach gender stereotypes to things such as colors. Present day, women rock menswear fashion and oversized apparel so it’s time for the boys to cross the line! It’s time for all men to embrace the pinks and pastels. (I also believe they should take on makeup, accessories and non-traditional silhouettes…but baby steps.)

This Fashionisto is not only taking a risk with the pastel pink, but also by individualizing this button-up with some paint. I caught him waiting in line for The 1975 and some of the symbols on his shirt even reference some of their songs. I’m all about people putting their own twist on regular clothes. This unique style is guaranteed not to look just like anyone else. His blue tinted circle glasses put off a ’70s vibe in contrast to the ’90s vibe stemming from the cuffed black skinny jeans and Dr. Martens. This combination gives a retro chic feel to the overall look.

Fashion is all about experimentation and testing just how far one can go. We’ve barely tapped the surface in men’s fashion and I do believe we have a long way to go, but it’s people like this Fashionisto who are getting us to this point by breaking the gender roles that our ancestors put in place.
