Now that it is getting super cold outside it is not possible to leave the house without a coat. What is most unfortunate about this is that most comfortable and warm coats are not fashionable at all. And let’s be frank, who wants to wear a marshmallow jacket that ruins their outfit?
What I had discovered at a trip to the Salvation Army last year was that fur coats are a winter must-have! This trend was promoted heavily in the Fendi Fall Ready-to-wear 2016 show. Numerous fur coats of all lengths and colors such as blue, black, white, polka-dot were shown off by models including the well known Kendall Jenner. The vibrant colors of this show drew my eye (even though I am typically a chromatic color scheme type of girl). This show also interests me because last year I purchased my first fur coat, a real rabbit fur coat that was yellow, orange and tan—not the best colors and definitely not animal-friendly. The colors were really off, didn’t match anything and I just wasn’t feeling like Kendall totally, yet.
This year, I happened to stumble across the PERFECT fur coat… at Walmart! My now favorite fur coat cost me a grand total of $15. It is pure white, doesn’t shed and actually keeps me warm (I tested one Friday night for 5 hours in 30-degree weather). This coat can be dressed up or down since the white color allows it to be paired with any outfit. It also maintains a lightweight feel and isn’t chunky, but still warm.
I chose to pair this staple piece with my favorite black jeans and black booties. I layered up with a long sleeve undershirt and a babydoll top to provide the ripples and flow that stuck out under my all-time favorite American Eagle sweater. I added the ruffle socks to match the trend of the ripples and flow and to break up the black on black contrast on my legs. I also threw on my oversized blanket scarf from Forever 21 to add a little extra warmth and really pull this emerging winter outfit together. When I added the fur jacket I took the outfit from simple to high class, yet comfortable and chic. The contrast between the black of the jeans and the white of the fur coat provides congruency in the outfit and helps to not fade into the dull colors of the season.
