STYLE GURU BIO: Kerry Ingram

Hello! My name is Kerry Ingram and I am so excited to be kicking off the new year as a Style Guru! Today, college campuses are full of trendy students with various styles. What better way to celebrate that than by capturing it all to share?

Let me start off by introducing myself. I am currently a Sophomore, mass communications student at Towson University. I am a biracial young adult (although I am often mistaken to be 12 due to my lack of growth in the height department). I would describe my style as “girly-glam”. I am currently in a “simplistically slaying” phase. I’m testing the waters to see how many different looks I can come up with that consist of timeless pieces, yet still pack a trendy punch. This basic turtleneck dress is one of the newest clothing items I have gotten in accordance to that look. I have an obsession with baby goats, love to find humor in 99% of things, am 20-times more likely to buy an item if it is adorned with anything that shines (such as my sequined backpack that keeps me motivated for school throughout the semester) and I don’t eat cheese unless it’s on pizza.

Secret for a secret: I love pizza.

I have always been considerably different from my peers. Growing up, all the children around me dreamt of becoming teachers or doctors. They would spend their free time reading picture books and singing along to the tunes of their favorite television shows. I was the child who dreamt of becoming a fashion designer, read fashion magazines over picture books, and who took notes while watching shows like America’s Next Top Model and Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane.

Eventually, I came across books and videos on makeup artistry and that is when I knew: I had fallen in love. I found that self-expression in the most visible and yet silent forms was something I could deeply relate to. My passion for the beauty and fashion industry is one that I love to share, especially when the opportunity comes unexpectedly. I once started up a conversation with a classmate about an affordable highlighter that works wonders (try Essence’s Pure Nude Highlighter, $4). That random bonding experience bloomed into a fierce and fashionable friendship.

Currently, I am a licensed cosmetologist at the tender age of 19 (insert sassy girl emoji here), a part-time employee at Sephora and am a beauty/fashion YouTuber—all while still living the college lifestyle. I love my school and the free feeling of gaining a rich education, but nothing beats the feeling of spotting fashion and beauty inspiration to guide my next look.

As the late Madame Coco Chanel once said, “Every day is a fashion show and the world is your runway.” So get ready to strut your stuff, Fashionistas and Fashionistos.

The show is about to begin.
